Why the GBBO challenge?

I love to bake.

I love to watch baking shows.

I love a British accent.

I love sharing yummy food with friends and family.

I love that my wife had to tell me to stop baking her things when we started dating because I was trying to win her over with cinnamon roll pancakes and other goodies.

I love that my mom taught me so many techniques growing up just by baking from scratch.

In May of 2020, I determined that in the next year I was going to master caramel. Caramel has been my nemesis in baking for a variety of reasons. However, I also realized that repeatedly making all the kinds of caramel only builds on one skill, so why not take on all the bakes that they have done in the Great British Bake Off - my favorite baking show!

Over the course of ... a while... we will work through all the series (10 so far) of GBBO to bake all the bakes we possibly can. There are a few that will be difficult given their requirement for specific equipment, and when those come up we will try to borrow the needed equipment, or have a guest baker who owns the equipment already join us for that recipe. We will throw in a few other neat recipes that we use regularly and love as well.

You may be thinking, 'but what is the Backwards Cape?" and that my friends is the best part. It could very well be the apron you wear to bake or that bib you need when you eat the yummy finished products. Who doesn't want a backwards cape in their lives!

Thank you for joining us on this journey, if you are baking along, please share your pictures with us in the comments!
